In accordance with Colonial Regulation No.
265, I have he honour to request your coverinė
approvel of additional expenditure of the sum of
40,000 under Head, Defence, B., Hong Yong Naval
Volunteer Force, on page 23 of the printed estimates
For 1939.
In this connection I would invite your
attention to my los otch Ho.749 of 14th Movember, 1939,
in which I requested your covering approval of the
expenditure of the san of $120,000 during the current
year to meet pay and allowances disbursed to those
members of the Kaval Volunteer Force who had been
mobilized since the outbreak of the way. In that
despatch ex, lained that when the estimates for
1935 were framed no provision was made for pay and
allowances in the event of mobili:ation; and I also
attached a copy of a note by the Commodore setting
forth how the expenditure in respect of payment of
personel, stores, upkeep, etc., is being shared by
the Colonial Government and the Admiralty.
